Early morning looking west. We are still in the shadow of the mountains behind us. Lago Di Garda has morphed into a fiord here in the north. Crowded by tall mountain peaks on both sides.
Port of Malcesine.
Lots of waterfront piazzas crowded with shops and excellent restaurants. Views in every direction.
What are those (German) tourists looking at?
Surprise! Just out of the water...
The castle sits on a big rock. More of the castle later.
Time for another glass of wine... See those mountains in the background? That tall one in the middle is called Bald Mountain. There is a heavy duty goldola lift that goes from Malcesine all the way to the top.
This gondola lift is two stages and arrives at the top in about twenty minutes. A rise of 7500 vertical feet. Why would anyone want to go to the top of Baldy? To fly down in a para glider, of course!
Want to see? Aloft over Lago Di Garda (September 2009)
Guess what? We returned to Lago da Garda the next year, and took another exciting flight. Interested? Aloft Again (July 2010)
Just south of Malcesine is this tiny waterfront village of Porto di Brenzone. Only a few meters separates the main road from the water.
But, still a special, beautiful place.
The sun bathing just north of the village brings back memories. This was where we stopped on our camping trip in 1970. Still beautiful.
Just north of Malcesine is the town of Torbole. Another town full of great shops, and with this rocky but beautiful beach. This is on the way to Riva di Garda, our next stop.
