Looking Around Benghazi
View from my window in the Tibesti Hotel. The water in the center is called the 23rd July Lake, but is actually a part of the main salt water harbor. My office building is the tall, pyrmid-shaped building in the center right, called the Islamic Call Building.
Our offices on the 9th floor have great view of the harbor and city.

East view in afternoon. The tall building on the left is the Tibesti Hotel.
The city center. Beautiful port on left. Midrise office and apartment buildings strech out to the east.
The full panorama on a beautiful morning.
Driving Around
Benghazi has excellent roadways and streets
The main street in the Dubai suburb.
Street near city center.
Popular shopping street, quiet on a Friday morning.
Typical roundabout intersection. This one contains a memorial to the Great Man-made River Project, constructed with actual 3 meter diameter pipe sections from the project.
From the other side
Just east of the city is this large waterfront park with boat rides and attractive restaurant. Just behind me is a large park for barbacuing and pickniking.
The barbacues are busy in this well maintained park.
The Fish Market
The fish market is located in the metal building ahead, on the edge of the harbor where the daily catch is offloaded.
The fish sales area is quite large, and very noisy as hawkers yell out their special deals.
The selections are vast. There is even some kind of lobster (right center). All at great prices. There are two staffed kitchens ready to cook your purchases if you want.
High Quality Housing
There are some surprisingly exclusive housing areas around Benghazi. This series of photos shows some of the homes that upper middle class locals and some expats are looking for.
Grocery store on the left surrounded by large single family homes.
Lots of new construction of large homes
Although the homes are completed and occupied, clean up and street paving isn't part of the scope.
I had a tour of this pink beauty when looking for housing. Top quality everything, with white marble floors throughout including on the full roof deck. Six bedrooms and six baths. All of these homes were in the 6000 to 8000 square foot range. Gives a whole new perspective...

New office and apartment buildings downtown
New development along the waterfront east of the city. This is a new "5 star" hotel under construction. Already completed is this wide pedestrian walkway that stretches several miles along the beach.
The waterfront and port area downtown. Nice pedestrian walkway lines the entire waterfront.
